Careers at Bellroy
Head of Data and Analytics

IN A NUTSHELL

At Bellroy, data isn’t an afterthought—it’s a strategic lever, backed by leadership and embedded into decision-making at every level. As we grow, we’re tackling bigger, more complex questions, and we’re ready for a data leader who wants to do more than report on the past. You’ll help shape what questions we ask, how we answer them, and how we embed that insight into the core of our business. If you’re looking for autonomy, real impact, and the chance to influence both our systems and our strategy, this could be your next role.

You won’t inherit a data wasteland. Our modern stack (Kafka, AWS/GCP, Python, R) is solid, and your team of seven isn’t starting from scratch. What we need isn’t someone to fix broken foundations, but a leader who can elevate how we use data to answer increasingly complex questions as we grow. You’ll collaborate with department leaders who expect decisions to be backed by evidence, not opinion — they depend on it to shape strategy and guide decisions that drive growth.

But this isn’t a role for someone who just directs traffic. You’ll be hands-on validating hypotheses, reviewing analytical models for rigour and relevance and designing frameworks that guide how we approach problems and decision-making. If you’re not comfortable switching from shaping strategic direction with senior management to refining a complex data model later that day, this might not be the right fit. But if you are—that’s where the magic happens.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with your team and take pride in nurturing a culture where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do their best work.
  • Bring sharp commercial instincts and a deep understanding of the business levers—balancing analytical rigour with what truly drives impact
  • Have relevant experience building and maintaining scalable data pipelines Understand the modern data stack—ideally with exposure to dbt, Colab/Jupyter
  • Are skilled in SQL, and you’ve used BI tools like Looker or Tableau
  • Have hands-on experience with Python or R, applying them to statistical modelling, data processing, and experimentation workflows
  • Have led multidisciplinary data teams and know how to balance strategic vision with hands-on collaboration to drive results
  • Can translate complex analysis into clear narratives that inspire confident decisions
  • Thrive in ambiguity, chase down truths in messy datasets, and bring structure where needed
  • Go beyond building dashboards—by understanding the underlying questions, shaping the data to surface meaningful insights, identifying areas worth deeper exploration, and making commercially sound recommendations that align with team needs.

WE’D BE EXCITED IF YOU HAVE:

  • Familiarity with privacy rules & the necessary data governance processes to comply with them
  • Exposure to forecasting, segmentation, or experiment design
  • Used Bayesian methods to improve predictions, update beliefs with new data, and make decisions under uncertainty
  • A background in project management (or a similarly pragmatic approach) that helps you deliver valuable data products on time and with clear purpose.

IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE:

  • Coached an analyst through the results of an experiment that didn’t go to plan, helping them uncover insights and framing the story in a way that helped the product team shift direction with confidence
  • Jumped into a working session with our data scientists to review a predictive model for customer engagement, helping refine the feature set and aligning on how to get it into production with minimal friction
  • Collaborated with a marketing lead to improve our customer segmentation models to better personalise campaigns and boost engagement
  • Reviewed the analytics team’s roadmap and reshuffled priorities to make space for time-sensitive product launch questions, walking them through how to assess opportunity cost and make trade-offs with stakeholders
  • Joined a cross-functional review and noticed that operations were using outdated assumptions in a forecast. You made some time to plan how we could better make high quality forecasts practically available to our teams, wherever they needed them (spreadsheets, notebooks, SQL or elsewhere)
  • Joined a cross-functional steering team to advise senior stakeholders on tariff impacts - modelling scenarios, rapidly assessing business impacts and identifying the pricing strategy that struck the right balance between revenue protection and commercial resilience.

Bellroy

(Bells Beach)

(Fitzroy)
